Thanks, but no thanks

May 17, 2012 - Bill Speer
This week Facebook goes public with a stock sale and it is anticipated that the popular social media outlet will do quite well. I wish them well.

The Associated Press ran a great story that is attached to this blog that I hope you will read. In it, they interview many people who, like me, have resisted the Facebook craze. While over 900 million people have Facebook accounts and enjoy the interaction with friends and family that Facebook offers, many others like me remain in the background.

For me it isn't a protest, rebellion or the fact I'm anti-social or old fashioned. As one who bares his soul daily with the public via the newspaper in print and electronically, and as one who is dealing with people all during the day and watching the internet constantly while at work, I just want to "veg" if you will in my free time. Yes, there are some old friends I probably am missing by not being a part of the network, but I understand that fact.

Count me in with the others in the AP story who are not part of the Facebook crowd. I think I'll survive without it.
