August 9, 2012 - Steve Schulwitz
It is hard to complain about the weather we have enjoyed this summer. For some I'm sure it was a little warm, but for most they were probably pleased with the warmth, farmers being the possible exception.
The lack of rain allowed most of the scheduled events in Northeast Michigan to be pulled off without a hitch, as Mother Nature seemed to be as excited about them as were the people taking part in them. For those events that are still upcoming I hope I didn't just jinx you.
Make no mistake about it though, the end of summer is closing in on us quickly. The wind's a touch cooler, the temperatures at night are dropping closer and closer to an ignition of our furnace and believe it or not, I saw fall's breath on a few of the leaves on my way to work today. Heck, I even had to put a light jacket on last night while fishing on Lake Huron. Summer went by way too quickly.
More and more my thoughts have been drifting to hunting, football, the start of school and believe it or not even Christmas shopping and the holidays. The camper is about to be put away for the season and the lawnmower is going to be replaced by my rake. How quicky the seasons pass.
Of course we are still going to have some warm weather, but the signs of fall are all around us and it is time to face fact that summer is in its twilight. Let's be thankful however for what it has provided.
