Back in the Alpena Groove....

May 20, 2014 - Steve Schulwitz
I'm back! Well almost.

It has been nearly a decade since I moved from Alpena to Rogers City but I'm moving back and I'm bringing my wife and two step-daughters with me. We're pretty pumped about it.

Anyone who knows me knows I have a deep love for Alpena and that will never change. For Andrea, Jade and Caitlynn, however, this is all new and life in Rogers City is basically all they know. They are excited about the new adventure, but I can sense a little unease over the transition. I'm confident this will subside once they see what the community has to offer and how we are all accepted.

As much as I love Alpena, Rogers City will always hold a special place in my heart. I have a lot of family there, and have met many amazing friends who I will miss dearly. I will miss having my parents a half block away and being able to drop by any time for a visit, or be there if they need help. I met the love of my life there and that alone makes the decision to move there worth it.

Now it is time to begin a new chapter however.

We still have a bunch to do. We are still in the middle of slowly moving, but hope to have that accomplished next week and then the unpacking starts. There are some small chores, such as registering the kids for school, changing addresses that will need to be done and Andrea will have to take care of some school business to prepare for her upcoming semester at ACC where she was accepted to the nursing program, but they will get done. It is going to be a summer of change for all of us, but it is going to be awesome!

We plan on being involved in the Alpena community and encouraging the two girls to do so as well. Many of the events I was forced to miss or cut short due to the long return trip to Rogers City, we will now be able to stay and enjoy them for as long as we wish. Sweet.

There are too many people in Rogers City to thank for the support you showed me while I was there. Even though I always felt like the "new guy," for the most part you accepted me and made me feel welcome. We will be there often to visit.

For now, however, it is all about Alpena and our new beginning.

Here we come Alpena. Ready not.
