The Dust has Settled....
June 16, 2014 - Steve Schulwitz
The dust has settled, for the most part.
Andrea, Jade, Caitlynn and myself are in our new home in Alpena and thanks to the tireless work of my wife, we are not living out of boxes and been able to focus on our careers and connecting with the community.
My wide and I joined the Alpena Mixed Beach Volleyball League and are enjoying getting out, getting some exercise, meeting people and have attended several community events. The girls are still getting a feel for Alpena, but have fallen in love with the library and are going to go to the boys and girls club, once they are a little more sure of themselves.
Simple little things are exciting for Andrea and the girls, as Rogers City is pretty much all they know. One example is trying pizza from the many different restaurants that offer it. Thus far we have checked Komo's and Pizza Hut off of the list and will soon try the others. I was dumbfounded when the girls told me they had never had Pizza Hut before. Wait until they get a load of the other options. I wonder in the end which will be their favorite?
We still haven't been able to go fishing, or take a bike ride together as a family, as we are still trying to get quality bikes for all of us. That is part my fault, as I admit I have dragged my feet somewhat, right Steve Murch?
My wife is still in shock somewhat at just how many people I know, or know me, from my work at The Alpena News, and my long employment at Ripley Car Wash. It seems where ever we go we are being approached by people wishing to say hello and ask how we are adjusting after the move. It is great and it sure makes us feel right at home.
So anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you Alpena for making us feel like we belong. We are excited to dive into the community and help it prosper and hope to be involved in many things locally.
