Speer: Preparing to compete in London Olympics
Who among us has not been caught up in the Summer Olympics these past weeks? Who actually has got enough sleep during that time, rather than stay up and watch yet another gymnast balance her way to gold? Certainly the Olympics have been everything they were supposed to be, and so much more! By now Michael Phelps is a household name in the United States, the beach volleyball tandem of Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor have given new meaning to “a day at the beach” and Americans wanted to reach through their television sets and hug Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson. Personally, I have found the whole Olympic experience exhilarating. They say you’re only as old as you feel and so, in four years, I seriously am contemplating taking a sabbatical from publishing and trying out for an Olympic sport. I heard that laughter all the way over here, but no, it won’t be in gymnastics, sprints nor swimming. I was thinking more in lines of badminton or ping-pong.
