William and Barbara Mitko of 8363 Taylor Hawks Rd. are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Mitko and the former Barbara Smith were married Oct. 17, 1959, at Alpena Free Methodist Church. A celebration was held Feb. 6 at Light and Life Park in Lakeland Fla., and a trip to Hawaii is planned in November.

The couple's children are Jody (Jon) Hawbaker of Tucson, Ariz., Tonya (David) Wile of Tucson, Ariz., and William Jr. (Aki) Mitko of Denver, Colo. Their grandchildren are Nicolaus, Jacob, Nathen, Cory, Jeremy, Megan, Jady Lynn, Elena, Sarah and Noah. They also have one great-grandchild, Kailey.

William is retired from the U.S. Air Force.
