Central pulls away in second half

TRAVERSE CITY After playing tough defense for one half, Alpena couldn't keep up with Traverse City Central in the second half and the Trojans pulled away for a 47-27 win.

The Wildcats were down 16-12 at the break and right in the thick of the game.

Christina Kollien had 10 points and Shelby Duncan had 14 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Traverse City Central also scored 47 points to beat the Wildcat JV team, 47-33. Alie Sherwin had 11 points to lead the Cats.

The freshman Wildcats lost 44-26 in Traverse City. Bailey Truman and Taylor Chroninger each scored four points and 10 of the 12 players on the roster had at least a basket.

Hillman 48, Arenac Eastern 34

HILLMAN The Hillman girls basketball team beat Arenac Eastern 48-34 Friday night.

Three of the Tigers scored double digits. Morgan Hardies had 18 points, Jensen Tchorzynski had 15 and Alissa Clink had 11.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Posen 76, Fairview 57

FAIRVIEWThe Posen boys basketball team left Fairview with yet another win under its belt, beating the Eagles 76-57 Friday night to improve its overall record to 12-1 and its North Star League record to 9-0.

Posen was led by Jerome Ciarkowski, who scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds. David Kerr added 19 points and Nick Hincka had 13 points.

Hudson Szubelek led Fairview with 13 points, Luke Harris added 12, Kasson Willobee had 11 and David Eaves had 10.

Mio 53, Atlanta 44

ATLANTA The Mio boys left Atlanta after earning a 53-44 win Friday night on the basketball court.

Atlanta only trailed by eight at half time, and the last two quarters the scoring stayed pretty even.

Garrett Badgero had 16 points to lead Atlanta, followed by Josh Eising with 10.

Micah Thomey scored 13 points and Grant Price had 11 to lead Mio.

Tawas 49, Oscoda 31

TAWAS-Justin Blust scored 16 points as the Tawas boys basketball team defeated Oscoda 49-31 in a Huron Shores Conference matchup on Friday.

Tawas (4-4 overall, 2-1 Huron Shores) led 11-1 after the first quarter and 24-10 at the half.

Chase Blackmore added nine for the Braves and Blake Katterman had seven.

Leading the way for Oscoda was Kevin Leveille with 11 points. Travis Taylor added 10.

Tawas plays at Standish on Wednesday.
