TAWAS-For the second straight game, the Alpena boys soccer team fell behind earlyin a game and was forced to play catch up the rest of the way.
The Wildcats fell behind 2-0 in the first half against Tawas on Tuesday and went on to lose 3-1 to the Braves.
Despite playing well in the first half, Alpena found itself trailing 2-0 at the half. Sawyer Hein cut the lead in half early in the second half on an assist from Dillon Kendzorski, but a defensive breakdown with about 15 minutes to play resulted in another Tawas score.
Alpena (0-2) will play at Alcona on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Onaway sets records in tri-meet
ONAWAY-Megan Estep set a school record for aces in a game and the Onaway volleyball team set a new school record for aces in a match on the way to winning a tri-meet with Gaylord and Wolverine on Tuesday in Onaway.
After the Cardinals (8-1-1) defeated Gaylord by scores of 25-18, 26-24 and 25-12, Estep had a record-setting 14 aces against Wolverine as Onaway cruised in three games, 25-12, 25-3 and 25-12. In the process, the Cardinals upped their own record for aces in a match from 26 to 32.
Estep had five kills, 29 assists, 18 aces and 11 digs on the night; Sara Fullerton had 11 kills, six aces and eight digs; Mariah Ehrke had six kills, four aces and eight digs; Devin Bristley had eight kills, four aces and eight digs; Lexi Szymoniak had eight kills, eight aces and 11 digs; and Kallie Shimel had five kills, five aces and six digs.
Onaway plays in a quad on Thursday in Boyne City with Indian River, Cheboygan and Boyne City.

KALKASKA-The Alcona soccer team earned a mercy win over Kalkaska on Tuesday, winning 8-0.
On Monday the Tigers earned a win over Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy.
