HILLMAN - The Hillman Village Council accepted a low bid for a bike path project that President Myron McIntire said will be completed this year. He said the council originally signed on to complete a walkable community project in 2007/2008 and will be working through different phases to create a walkable community.
"Eventually we want to have sidewalks throughout the village, creating a big circle around the Village of Hillman so people can walk anywhere," he said.
McIntire said the area closest to the high school, running through M-32 will be made the first priority. The council approved East Shore Paving, based out of Lachine, to begin the bike path project at a total cost of $7,711.50.
"The project will be started as soon as possible, but it will be done this year," he said. "I'm glad to see this getting done, we've been budgeting this for the last three years."
The council will be using sidewalk funds to complete the first phase of what Trustee Wilbur Funk said is a five-phase project, and is planning on collaborating with the township in the future.
