ATLANTA - The Atlanta Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 28th annual Elk Festival this weekend in Atlanta, the elk capital of the world. Phil LaMore, Atlanta chamber president, said this year's three-day festival will have something for everyone. The weekend festivities officially kick off Friday, and will continue with a wide variety of events for people of all ages until Sunday.
LaMoresaid some of the main events include the craft fair, music and entertainment, the parade, pancake breakfast, contests, auction, elk nugget river race, and the motorcycle rodeo.
"We're also going to have a children's fun fair set up. We'll have a Wii sports challenge at the pavilion and award prizes based on high scores. We'll even give away a complete Wii package with games," he said.
The Wii challenge is new this year, but fan favorites - bingo, grease the pig contest, talent contest, and the big auction - will be returning bigger and better than ever.
"This weekend is going to be nothing but fun, with all kinds of prizes," LaMore said.
To attend this year's festival, purchase a $2 Elk Fest button at the event or at the chamber office. "Jail and Bail" will be open throughout the weekend, and anyone caught without a button is subject to arrest by the Elk Fest sheriff or deputies and taken to jail. Prisoners will be released if they pay bail or do a song and dance.
