The League of Women Voters of Alpena County will host two candidate forums prior to the Nov. 6 general election.
The first forum is set for Thursday at 7 p.m., at the Alpena Township Civic Building, 4385 US-23 North, and will include candidates running opposed for Alpena County commissioner and candidates for Alpena Township trustee.
The second forum, set for Tuesday at 7 p.m., at Alpena Community College's Granum Theatre, will include candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, the Michigan State House of Representatives and Alpena County treasurer. Both forums are free and open to the public.
Not all candidates invited have confirmed their attendance at this time.
The forums will follow a traditional League format, with each candidate presenting opening and closing statements, and answering written questions submitted by audience members. The written questions will be screened by League members for duplication and personal attacks.
Voter guides will be available at the forums and online at vote411.org, a League of Women Voters' website. For those who cannot attend the events, a taping of the Thursday forum is being sponsored by The Bank of Alpena, and will air Oct. 21-22, 24, 26 and 28 on Charter Public Access Channel 97. A taping of the Tuesday forum, sponsored by the Credit Unions of Alpena, will air Oct. 29 and 31, and Nov. 2, 4-5, on the same channel. All showings will be at 8 p.m.
