Lorrie LaCross holds her Robert E. Haltiner Distinguished Service Award as Judi Stillion, former Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library director, right, and John McConnell congratulate her on the honor. Named after the late Alpena historian, the award is given to volunteers who make extraordinary contributions to the library’s special collections, current library Director Eric Magness-Eubank said during the presentation at the library conference room Wednesday. He gave some examples of LaCross’s work, including scanning more than 37,800 obituaries from The News, indexing numerous books and adding to the collection’s genealogy files.
