ATLANTA - The Montmorency County Board of Commissioners approved an employment agreement between the commissioners and board secretary, defining employment, duties and terms during its meeting on Wednesday.

The board secretary contract was approved with a 3-2 vote, with Commissioners Bert LaFleche and Daryl Peterson voting against it, but elected officials duties also were discussed and outlined during Wednesday's meeting.

"There have been arguments. I asked our attorney if the country treasurer could move money from different line items," Commissioner Brock Baggett said. "The treasurer lacks authority to transfer money from one line item to another without board approval."

Baggett said the county's foreclosure fund and revenue sharing fund were discussed with attorney Peter Cohl, but he said each response had the same outcome.

"The reason they put that money in there was to have it last until 2014. If you keep pulling from here it won't last," LaFleche said.

Treasurer Karen Weiland-Tyler said she would share Prosecutor Terrie Case's opinion on the subject, but Baggett refused.

"I'm tired of bumping heads and law breaking. The treasurer can't move money from line items to line items. It needs board approval," Baggett said.
