FAIRVIEW-Aaron Ritchie scored 16 points and the Alcona boys basketball team improved to 3-1 with a 72-57 win over Fairview on Monday.
Jared Steiner added 11 points and 14 assists and Trenton LaVergne and Dustin Yokum each had 11 points.
Alcona got out to a fast start and led 23-12 after the first quarter. The Tigers pushed their lead to 43-25 at the half and 60-36 after three quarters. Fairview (1-3) bounced back and outscored Alcona 21-12 in the final quarter, but couldn't make up the deficit.
Kasson Willobee led the Eagles with 15 points and Austin Handrich and Hudson Szubelak added 13 points each.
Alcona plays at Posen on Thursday and Fairview travels to Oscoda on Friday.
Posen 65, Oscoda 30
POSEN-Bev Bednarski scored 20 points and the Posen girls basketball team got strong defensive play from two freshmen to beat Oscoda 65-30 on Monday at Posen High School.
Playing without Korynn Hincka for a second straight game, the Vikings (7-0 overall, 4-0 North Star League) jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and led 43-16 at halftime.
Anna Couture and Jenna Hincka each had 10 points for Posen and Ashley Meyers added nine.
Posen got strong defensive play from freshmen Hincka and Kayla Lenard who led a strong defensive effort by the Vikings.
"They led a defensive charge that was unbelievable, coming up with charges and steals to lead a strong defensive effort," Posen coach Karl Momrik said. "The girls are showing a lot of character and a lot of heart."
Tori LaPointe and Carley Brown each had 12 points for Oscoda.
