ONAWAY-The Onaway girls basketball team took control from the opening tip-off on Monday against Wolverine and didn't let up until it had a 52-14 win and extended its winning streak to seven.
Mariah Ehrke had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (9-2 overall, 6-2 Ski Valley) and Ashley LeCureux and Erika Price each added 10 points.
The Cardinals started the game on a 16-0 run and ended the first quarter with a 22-4 lead. Onaway led 38-8 at the half and 52-12 after three quarters.
"It was a real nice effort from all the girls. It was a very controlled game," Onaway coach Marty Mix said. "We got to try some different sets. We're working on a new offense and we were able to work on 5-6 different sets tonight."
Onaway travels to Johannesburg-Lewiston on Wednesday for a matchup of two of the Ski Valley Conference's top teams.
Boyne Falls 73,
ATLANTA-Lacey Ferguson scored 13 points for the Atlanta girls basketball team on Monday, but the Huskies were unable to avenge a season-opening loss to Boyne Falls and lost 72-24.
Ferguson's big night was highlighted by three triples in the second quarter.
The Huskies (1-8) played hard, but found themselves overmatched with just five players taking the floor for the game.
"They played real tough," Atlanta coach Melony Haskin said.
Reagan Pedigo led Boyne Falls with 18 points.
Atlanta travels to Arenac Eastern on Friday.
