ROGERS CITY - On Saturday, a Rogers City club will host some outdoor fun and games to beat the winter blahs.
The Rogers City Winter Carnival is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lakeside Park Pavilion, Rogers City Kiwanis Club President Mark Slown said. The organization will get help from Key Club members, along with a local Girl Scouts troop to make the carnival happen.
"It's kind of an antidote for cabin fever," he said.
Along with sledding and chicken bowling, there also will be a game called octopoppers, a sort of winter sack race where four people have to work together to walk on a sled. Other winter games are planned as well.
"We decided, as a hedge against really horrible weather, there's a little more to do at Lakeside Park," he said.
Free hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee will be served, courtesy of the Rogers City Optimists Club, Slown said. Girl Scouts will also fix s'mores.
There will be ice skating at Sports Park, with a hay wagon to take people there and back to Lakeside Park, Slown said. Skates are available to borrow at the warming hut, and hockey goals will be there as well for impromptu games, provided the weather cooperates.
"The rink is in great shape right now," Slown said.
Of course, there will be a fire in the Pavilion's fireplace, and possibly another outside for people to warm themselves, Slown said.
