HILLMAN-The Hillman girls basketball team ended the regular season on a good note on Wednesday.
Trailing 35-25 at the halftime, the Tigers used tough defense to open its offense and topped Au Gres 68-58 at Hillman High School.
Jensen Tchorzynski led Hillman (9-10, 9-5 North Star League) with 34 points with 21 of those coming in the second half as the Tigers scored a number of points on fast breaks.
Au Gres jumped out a commanding halftime lead after outscoring Hillman 20-8 in the second quarter, but the Tigers came roaring back in the second half. Hillman outscored the Eagles 24-9 in the third quarter and 19-14 in the final period.
Morgan Hardies chipped in with 17 points for Hillman and Cassidy Boensch paced Au Gres with 31 points.
Hillman will play Posen in a Class D district semifinal on Wednesday in Onaway.
Central Lake 47
CENTRAL LAKE-The Onaway girls basketball team never gave up on Wednesday.
Despite trailing after each of the first three quarters, the Cardinals bore down and came out with a 49-47 win over Central Lake in their regular season finale.
The win leaves Onaway (15-5, 11-5 Ski Valley) in sole possession of third place in the Ski Valley Conference.
Mariah Ehrke had a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds for Onaway and Kallie Shimel added 16 points.
Central Lake led 16-8 after the first quarter, 31-24 at the half and 39-37 after three quarters, but Onaway answered back with tough defense to pull out the win.
Onaway plays Atlanta in a Class D quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. on Monday on its home floor.
