BOYS?BASKETBALL

Mio 64, Posen 49

POSEN-The unbeaten Mio Thunderbolts boys basketball team travelled to Posen on Friday to face the Vikings and beat Posen 64-49 on its senior night.

In spite of the loss, Posen head coach Steve Hentkowski was proud.

"They played a really great three quarters against the state-ranked Mio boys. They played hard the whole night. It'll be sad to see the seniors go but I'm proud of the way they played tonight," he said.

Mio (17-0, 14-0 NSL) wrapped up a perfect conference slate.

The first quarter saw a 16-8 lead by Mio while Posen narrowed the gap to 28-21 at halftime. The third quarter ended with Mio up 44-34.

"We had a one point lead for awhile in the third. But three turnovers in a row really hurt our chances," Hentkowski said.

They fought strong in the last quarter against the Thunderbolts, but simply couldn't catch up to the overpowering Mio team.

"Mio's very well balanced and play a very disciplined game," Hentkowski said.

Posen is now 6-12 overall and 4-10 in the North Star League. The Vikings travel to Oscoda on Tuesday.
