ARMC looking at capital improvements

ALPENA - Alpena Regional Medical Center has set forth plans for projects totaling more than $3 million for this year and next.

The building and grounds committee updated the ARMC Board of Trustees on several expensive major mechanical projects that are old and in need of replacement during Tuesday's board meeting. The board heard the committee on the switchgear replacement project, fire pump replacement project, boiler plant replacement project, air handlers 4&5 replacement (surgery and central supply) project, and the fire alarm system replacement project.

"Between all of these projects, there is about $3.5 million we're going to tackle this year and next," committee Chair James Florip said.

The committee had three bids for the fire pump replacement project, the lowest bid being from Total Fire Protection at $304,031.

The emergency department project design group will travel to view other high functioning emergency rooms to gather information and hopefully come to the board with a floor plan on the project.
