ROGERS CITY-The Onaway boys basketball team met with the Rogers City on Monday in the first round of Class D district play and came away with a 56-39 win.
The win ended a four-year run of district titles for the Hurons.
The first quarter saw Onaway ahead 8-7 and the half ended with Onaway leading 20-13.
Onaway held Rogers City to six points in the third quarter to take a 36-19 lead, while both teams scored 20 in the last quarter.
"Our guys played played well and took the game under control quickly. They took the ball down the court and hit a couple of big threes to open the game up. They moved the ball around well tonight and kept Rogers City under control defensive," Onaway coach Eddy Szymoniak said.
Joe O'Bradovich was Onaway's scoring leader with 14 points. Carlos Bautista scored 12 points while Rasheed Porter added 10.
Zach Hazel of Rogers City led his team with 11 points.
Onaway moves on to the second round of district play on Wednesday at Rogers City. The Cardinals play against Posen at 6 p.m.
