The Alpena JV baseball team started the 2012-13 season off on the right foot, picking up two wins against Traverse City Central in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Chris Modrzynski threw a no-hitter for the Wildcats in the nightcap as Alpena pounded out 10 hits in a 17-0 mercy win in five innings. He walked one and struck out eight.
Modrzynski was also 2-for-2 at the plate and Dylan Tucker was 2-for-2.
Alpena won the opener 4-1. Caleb Myers earned the win for Alpena, allowing one run on two hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts in seven innings.
"The story of the day was our starting pitching. We allowed two hits and struck out 19," Alpena coach Dave Myers said.
Braeden Worth was 2-for-4 and Brad Styma and Jensen Saddler both went 3-for-4.
Alpena travels to Gladwin on Tuesday.

Traverse City Central 4-1
The Alpena JV softball team opened the season with a pair of wins over Traverse City Central on Tuesday, topping the Trojans 9-4 and 17-1 in four innings.
Mykayla Price fanned nine in the opener and allowed three hits and a walk. Amelia Teff and Elise Leeck both went 2-for-4 and Alexis Smith was 3-for-4.
Price pitched the first two innings of the second game and walked one and struck out one. She was relieved by Lauren Heath who struck out two and walked two.
Jordon Modrzynski and Madison Amlotte both went 2-for-4.
Alpena plays in Lake Orion this weekend.
