Supporting our bands has been a pleasure

May 15, 2013
The Alpena News

My son has been playing the French Horn since fifth grade at Alpena Public Schools. His success is in part due to hard work, but the dedication of his instructors Ms. Moore, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Moors, and his private lesson teacher Brian Carter has made all the difference.

It was an honor traveling with the band this past week as they competed in the State Band Festival near Grand Rapids. The students spend many hours at home and after school practicing and refining their music to perfection. The band students are not only dedicated to music, but a good majority of them are academically at the top of their class.

Ms. Moore is a wonderful director and role model who spends countless hours mentoring the High School Band students. Both the Symphony Band and the Wind Ensemble received a Division 1 rating at the State level.

It was also a pleasure to see Gordon Snow from the Alpena School Board on the bus at 4:30 a.m. ready to make the long trip with us. His show of support really meant a lot to the band students and the parents. Bob Martin transported the percussion instruments and he is always there for us during our travels and we appreciate him so much.

It has been a pleasure being a Band Booster for these wonderful individuals.
