More than two weeks after they won Cal Ripken state titles in Niles, the Alpena Huron Shores Babe Ruth 9U and 11U baseball team are taking the field again.
Both teams will compete in the Cal Ripken Ohio Valley Regional Tournaments which begin today with icebreaker activities and end Sunday. Tournament games will begin on Thursday.
Alpena's 9U team will be competing in Connersville, Ind., while the 11U team will be playing in Galesburg, Ill.
The Alpena 9U team is in a four-team pool in a 13-team field with Connersville, Ind, Matoon, Ill., and Brownstown Ind.
The 9U teams competing in the tournament will get to watch a Richmond (Ind.) River Rats game tonight and the teams will be announced during the game.
Alpena will begin play on Thursday afternoon against Brownstown at 2:30 p.m. After opening ceremonies at 7 p.m., Alpena will play against Connersville. Alpena wraps up pool play on Friday morning against Matoon at 11 a.m.
After pool play ends on Friday, all 13 teams will be seeded and advance to a 12-team single elimination bracket. The top four teams will get a first round bye.
Alpena's 11U team is part of a 12-team field, broken up into three pools. Alpena is in a pool with St. Matthews, Ky., Wabash Valley, Ill., and Connersville, Ind.
Alpena will begin pool play on Thursday against St. Matthews at 1:45 p.m. Alpena will continue pool play on Friday against Connersville at 12:30 p.m. and against Wabash Valley at 8:15 p.m.
After pool play ends on Friday, all 12 teams will be seeded and advance to a single elimination bracket. The top four teams will get a first round bye.
