ALLEN PARK-The Alpena Street Cats picked up a three game sweep of the Detroit Fighting Irish this weekend, blanking them 3-0 on Friday, winning a tight 5-4 shoot out victory on Saturday and finishing off with a 4-2 win on Sunday.
Street Cats goalie Vladislav Graevski had a lot to do with Alpena's win on Friday, holding off 25 shots from the Irish.
Detroit was able to hold off any Alpena scores until the third period. Andrei Kiselev hit the first goal at 9:02 off a Savelii Skurikhin and Vladimir Mokrousov assist to go up 1-0. Skhurikhin picked up his own goal with a Vladislav Khasanov assist five minutes later.
Sergey Deev picked up an empty net goal at 18:56 to give the Street Cats the 3-0 win.
Saturday featured a more aggressive Fighting Irish and Street Cats attack. Deev scored first for the Cats at 8:50, but the Irish scored four minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of the first period.
The Irish then hit a second goal in the second period at 6:55 to go up 2-1. Andrei Yanovich hit Alpena's second goal at 17:24 while Khasanov hit their third 30 seconds later to give the Cats a 3-2 lead going into the third.
The Irish scored two goals to Alpena's one in the third to force overtime. Konstantin Khramov hit Alpena's fourth goal of the night at 8:51.
Nobody scored in the overtime period, forcing a shoot out. Alpena got two goals to Detroit's one to take the 5-4 win. Goalie Vlad Salangin stopped 29 shots for the Street Cats.
Sunday was another tight match between the Irish and the Street Cats. The Irish struck first at 6:33 in the second, but Khramov hit a goal at 10:57 to keep the game tied.
Detroit struck again about a minute later, but Yanovich hit a goal four minutes later to tie the game at 2-2 going into the third.
Alpena hit two unanswered goals in the third to take the win. Vladimir Mokrousov hit one at 5:47 while Khasanov hit one five minutes later. Graveski stopped 39 shots on the night.
With these three wins, the Street Cats go to 8-4 and sit at second place behind the Traverse City hounds in the Midwest Junior Hockey League. They host the Hounds at the Northern Lights Arena at 7:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
