Two hunting-related accidents since Friday have left one man dead and a woman injured.
The 51-year-old St. Clair man, who died Friday was identified as Michael Heisler, Michigan State Police Sgt. Craig Johnson said Monday. Heisler was hunting on state land about a mile from Fish Lab Road in Albert Township.
When troopers investigated, his companions said they had heard him pleading for help at one point.
At the end of the day, when he failed to return from his blind to their cabin, they went searching for him where they knew his blind was set up and found him dead. He had been shot in his lower leg.
Johnson said an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
On Sunday, a 29-year-old Posen woman was shot in the leg at around 3:15 p.m. at an Alpena Township residence.
That accident occurred when a 57-year-old man was loading his rifle in the home as he prepared to go hunting, and it discharged, officials said. The woman was taken by first responders to the Alpena Regional Medical Center where she was reported to be in stable condition.
