ALPENA - The Alpena Convention and Visitors Bureau and Northern Lights Arena are teaming up to host a community party that will cap off the season of Major League Fishing that was filmed in Alpena.

On Feb. 8 the championship episode of the reality show will air on the Outdoor Channel at 3 p.m. and people in Alpena will be able to celebrate the moment at the bash, which will feature large television screens hung above the ice and sound pumped through the NLA system.

CVB President Mary Beth Stutzman said tickets for the event will be $11 and there will be a lot to do before and after the telecast. She said the money earned will be used to help the CVB lure other organizations to Alpena to film and the arena will use a portion to help fund a project that would have a new water heater purchased and moved to a different site in the building. By moving the water heating system it will help cut down on utility expenses.

Alpena Convention and Visitors Bureau President Mary Beth Stutzman, right, and assistant Jessica Smith sort through tickets to a party that will be held at the Northern Lights Arena to celebrate the Major League Fishing show in Alpena. The event is Feb. 8 and will showcase the championship episode on large television screens over the ice.

Stutzman said more than anything it is a chance for the community to rally and celebrate the show and how it showcases Alpena to people around the nation.

"We wanted to have a place where we could all come together and yell and cheer for the fisherman and for this big win for Alpena," Stutzman said. "This is a monumental occasion for Alpena and the surrounding communities and we want to have a lot of fun celebrating this accomplishment."

The price of the ticket will include entrance to the arena, as well as events that will be going on. Stutzman said it is an event where a family can come and enjoy the afternoon.

"All ages are welcome. We will have refreshments, and there will be adult beverages, as well as special activities for the kids," Stutzman said. "Some of the local fishing clubs will be there to help with the event, as well as autographed prizes we will be giving away with drawings. There will also be several other surprises. It is going to be a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate something very special to Alpena."

Stutzman said tickets are available at the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce, NLA, Neiman's Family Market and online at www.northernlightsarena.com.

Major League Fishing is shown on the Outdoor Channel, with new episodes telecast each Saturday at 3 p.m. The shows are then reaired on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. and regularly throughout the week.
