Posen’s Hincka tops 2,000 points

POSEN Posen celebrated its 55th straight North Star League win Friday night and Korynn Hincka became the first female Posen player to earn 2,000 points in a career as the Vikings defeated Au Gres 41-26.

Hincka led Posen with 24 points, while all-state center Cassidy Boensch scored nine for Au Gres.

The teams were tied in the first quarter 10-10. Posen quickly took a 22-12 lead by halftime and led 29-19 after three quarters.

Alpena 34, Petoskey 32

PETOSKEY- The Alpena girls basketball team earned its first win of the season Friday night against Petoskey 34-32

"We came out and played really well defensively," Alpena coach Dan Arsenault said. "Petoskey fought back hard, but we were able to grab our first win."

Elizabeth Trelfa led Alpena (1-5) with 13 points and Jenna Talbot added 12.

Alpena's freshmen team lost against Petoskey 23-20. Jasmyn Schultz and Taylor Kunath led Alpena with seven and eight points respectively.

Alpena JV team lost against Petoskey 34-37. Makayla Price scored 12 points for Alpena.

The Wildcats face Cheboygan Monday at home.

Fairview 46, Atlanta 6

ATLANTA- Logan Winton scored 16 points and the Fairview girls basketball team topped Atlanta 46-6 on Friday.

Six other players added four points each for the Eagles to assist in the win. Fairview led 18-0 after the first quarter; 30-2 at halftime and 40-4 after three quarters. The Eagles are now 4-4, and 3-1 in the North Star League.

Fairview will play again Tuesday in Mio at 6 p.m.

Rogers City 56, Mio 32

MIO Logan Fleming contributed 23 points to a 24-point win for the Rogers City girls basketball team on Friday night as the Hurons beat Mio 56-32.

Courtney Streich added 10 points for the Hurons.

Jalen Deflorio was leading scorer for Mio with eight points.

Rogers City (6-2) started slowly and led 13-12 at halftime. The Hurons led 49-23 after three quarters.

Rogers City hosts Pickford on Thursday.

Hillman 67, Oscoda 40

OSCODA-Jensen Tchorzynski scored 26 points and Kalen Tchorzynski added 10 as the Hillman girls basketball team defeated Oscoda 67-40 on Friday.

Hillman (3-5) led 15-8 after one quarter and 29-15 at the half. The Tigers increased their lead to 47-25 after three quarters.

"We jumped out defensively and we had intensity right from the start. That made the difference," Hillman coach John Kuzewski said. "Once we did that, we were able to get out and run a little bit."

Hillman plays at Atlanta on Wednesday.

Alcona 71, Whittemore-Prescott 19

WHITTEMORE- Karina Cole scored 27 points and the Alcona girls basketball team cruised to an easy win over Whittemore-Prescott, besting the Cardinals 71-19.

Alcona (7-2) jumped out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter and led 32-6 at the half. Whittemore didn't fare much better in the second half and trailed 50-16 after three quarters.

"We played very good defense tonight. Our team was very focused," Alcona coach Brad Cole said.

Alissa Terpstra had nine points and 11 rebounds for Alcona and Megan Quick added five points and four assists. Sam Schopfer and Lilly Manning also had five points each.

Alcona's JV team beat Whittemore 65-24.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hillman 80, Oscoda 50

OSCODA-The Hillman boys basketball team clamped down early on Oscoda defensively on Friday and ultimately walked away with an 80-50 win.

Mason VanPamel scored 23 points and the Tigers drained eight three-pointers to improve to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the North Star League.

Hillman led 21-7 after one quarter and 44-20 at halftime.

"The first quarter was key. We ran a little bit of a diamond press and they never quite recovered," Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said. "One thing we've been lacking is intensity and that wasn't an issue tonight."

Dylan Ross and Gunnar Libby each added 11 points for Hillman and David Julka led the Tigers on the glass with six rebounds.

Hillman plays at Posen on Monday.

Onaway 75, Pellston 44

PELLSTON Joe O'Bradovich led the Onaway boys basketball team to its sixth straight win Friday night scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks in a 75-44 win over Pellston.

Carlos Beautista added 13 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three blocks for Onaway and Pat Dunn contributed 10 points.

Onaway (6-1, 4-0 Ski Valley) led 32-25 at halftime and 56-31 after three quarters.

The Cardinals play Forest Area on Tuesday.
