Children, gather 'round.
Those kid-favorite characters from the kid-favorite books of Dr. Seuss will come to life this week on stage at Alpena High School when the Masquers Club presents its spring musical, "Seussical."
A total of 33 students become Horton, Whos and a whole host of other beloved characters in this large-scale production that opens Thursday. Performances are scheduled Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
"The show puts all the popular Dr. Seuss stories together into one musical," said student director Courtney Marshall. "It should be a wonderfully funny, heartwarming show."
Written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, "Seussical" debuted on Broadway in 2000. The show boasts colorful characters in crazy costumes, all backed by a live pit band of 13 student musicians.
"Definitely bring your children," said Masquers Club co-advisor Nancy Marshall, who is directing the show.
Behind the scenes, Landen Revilla, Allison Kania and Jessica McEachern designed the costumes. Choreography is by Dylan Goike and Courtney Marshall. Set and light design are by Colin Marshall, with light design assistance from Courtney Marshall. On props is Ashley Timmreck.
Tickets for "Seussical" are $10 for adults, $8 for students, $5 for children under 10 and $2 for ITS members.
