Gerald Francis Jasinski, 81, of Alpena, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City from complications arising out of an automobile accident on June 7.
Jerry was born in Alpena, Mich., on Nov. 5, 1932 to the late Frank and Mary Jasinski. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950 and then served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jerry returned in 1954 to marry Patricia, his wife of 59 years. He attended Ferris State University, where he received a degree from the College of Pharmacy.
Jerry acquired Spens Pharmacy in 1961 in Harrisville, Mich., where he and Patty lived and raised their family for 25 years. Jerry served on the Alcona County Board of Commissioners for 12 years and 11 of those years as Chairman. Upon his return to Alpena in 1986, he worked as Vice-President of Commercial Lending for NBD Bank until his retirement in 1997. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was a member of the Remington Hunting Club for 55 years. In 2010 Jerry was inducted into the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia of Alpena; son, Michael (Catherine) Jasinski; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Steven) Brown, Pamela (James) Blue all of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Thomas both of Alpena.
Memorial visitation will take place on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Bannan Funeral Home from 5 - 8 p.m. and will continue at St. Anne Catholic Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Okoli officiating.
