DETROIT (AP) — The Meijer State Games of Michigan torch is making its way through the state.

The torch tour is coming to Detroit on Wednesday before moving on to Lansing and Grand Rapids later in the week.

The athletic competition's opening ceremonies will take place Friday in Grand Rapids.

On Wednesday, Detroit Lions hall-of-famer Charlie Sanders is to be on hand when the torch is run down the city's Dequindre Cut walk- and bike-way.

The custom, made-in-Michigan torch incorporates core Michigan elements such as iron ore and copper from the Upper Peninsula and reclaimed glass, steel and wood from Detroit.

Organizers say an estimated 7,000 athletes will compete in 40 sports during the 5th annual Meijer State Games of Michigan Friday through Sunday.
