Haunted Lighthouses lecture Wednesday
ALPENA — Wednesday is National Lighthouse Day, and the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center will host a special program called “Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses” by Dianna Stampfler, author of the book with the same name. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7 p.m.
Since 1997, Stampfler has been presenting lively and upbeat programs about Michigan’s lighthouses, historic sites, and paranormal destinations in her home state of Michigan. She is excited to share these stories with the people of Northeast Michigan.
Stampfler describes lighthouse keepers as extremely dedicated to their profession, and for some, it seems they were unable to give it up, even after death. More than 30 lights in Michigan are rumored to be haunted. From the smell of cigar smoke at Seul Choix Point Light to the mysterious housekeeping at White River Light Station, to the curious light that sometimes appears at the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse, these are the stories that captivate and entertain all ages.
During the program, Stampfler will share from the pages of her book, “Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses,” which is also for sale in The Sanctuary Store inside the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center.
Stampfler is a member of the Historical Society of Michigan, Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, Association for Great Lakes Maritime History, U.S. Lighthouse Society, National Museum of the Great Lakes, and Michigan Maritime Museum.
