Alcona County Library announces September programs and events

HARRISVILLE — Alcona County Library has announced September programs and events. If you have questions, call the library at 989-724-6796.

All library events and programs are free unless otherwise noted.

Ukulele Jam is held at 10 a.m. every Tuesday. Learn to strum crowd-pleasing songs both old and new with a welcoming collective of musicians.

Knitting Klub and Crochet is held at 1:15 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays for all levels, beginner to advanced.

A S.T.E.A.M. activity for home-schooled and alternatively-schooled youth is held at 1 p.m. every Wednesday.

Walking Club for everyone meets at 9 a.m. each Thursday. Meet in the parking lot at the main branch for an enjoyable stroll through Harrisville before the library opens.

Story Time and Craft for young children is held at 10:30 a.m. every Friday. Children’s Specialist Melanie will read a story aloud, and lead a craft for young patrons and their grownups to enjoy.

This Friday is Popcorn Friday! Help yourself to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.

Make It Monday craft for adults will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9. This month’s installment will be a paper leaf wreath. There is no cost, but call 989-724-6796 to RSVP.

A Special Species presentation by Peggy Ridgeway and AuSable Valley Audubon will take a fascinating look at the Osprey at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12. Call 989-724-6796 to RSVP.

The Alcona Book Club will hold its September meeting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Michigan-based nature writer Aaron J. Veselenak, author of “Silent Springs the Panther,” will present on the hidden history of human encounters with mountain lions in Michigan at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Cookbook Club will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23 to discuss and share their interpretations of this month’s cookbook, “Black Food” by James Beard Award-winning Chef Bryant Terry.

The Alcona County Library Board of Trustees will meet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Mikado branch, located at 2291 S. F-41.
