Alpha Xi Chapter of DKG meeting held
ALPENA — At the Oct. 23 meeting of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators, the group was pleased to welcome three of the exchange students currently attending Alpena High School. Davit Barbakadze, from the country of Georgia, Martin Poliak from the Czech Republic, and Jasinta Puglisi from Australia joined them for dinner and later each one spoke to them about their home country. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet them, hear about their experiences since they arrived in Alpena and their future plans.
Another highlight of the October meeting was the initiation of Sue Riedlinger, counselor at Alpena High School, and Kaye Lynn Mazurek, retired German teacher in Wall Lake, Michigan. The Alpha Xi Chapter looks forward to working with them as to achieve the goals of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Other business addressed were approval of the budget, a report on the participation of members at Green School during the recent Harvest Days celebration, suggested gifts to bring to the December meeting for Hope Shores Alliance, and the delivery of staff appreciation gifts for employees in the Alpena, Atlanta, Hillman and Roger City Schools. This year, staff received pencils with the note “You Do the Write Stuff.”
Applications for new teachers in the Alpena, Atlanta, Hillman and Roger City Schools were also distributed for delivery to these locations. Any new teacher in these districts is eligible for a $100 grant from Alpha Xi to purchase materials for their classroom. New teachers are encouraged to apply.
