SUNRISE SIDE BULLETIN BOARD

Veterans Day events Sunday, Monday in Alpena

ALPENA — A dedication ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. on Sunday at Little Flanders Field, which has been refurbished and updated. Flags representing all of the military groups have been placed appropriately and will be raised as part of the ceremony. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been replaced by Brian Walborn of the Alpena Wilbert Vault Co. Most of the work at Little Flanders has been done by local veterans.

A Veterans Day parade and ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday. The parade will commence at 11 a.m. at McRae Park. (There will be several vehicles available for people who cannot walk.) It will continue down 2nd Avenue across the bridge and left onto River Street and right onto 1st Avenue, ending at City Hall. The ceremony will be held on the steps of City Hall. Robert Young of Alpena will be the guest speaker. The Veteran of the Year will be announced and two new awards will be presented.

Following the ceremony, a luncheon will be held at the VFW Post 2496 on Connon Street. The luncheon is free to all veterans and is being offered by the VFW and the Alpena Veterans Council.
