Free Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 28 at VFW

ALPENA — The public is invited to the Werdas’ annual free Thanksgiving dinner from 3 to 6 p.m., or until food runs out, on Thursday, Nov. 28 at the Alpena VFW Post 2496 at 2900 Connon St., Alpena.

NEMAG to meet Wednesday at museum

Living Hope hosting events

ALPENA — Living Hope Church in Alpena will host several free upcoming events.

At noon on Wednesday will be the Senior Coffee and Thanksgiving Lunch, open to community members ages 55 and older.

Then at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, a men’s breakfast will be held, open to all men in the community.

A Thanksgiving service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, open to all members of the community.

The church is located at 1499 M-32, Alpena.

Poetics Lab hosting event

ALPENA — The Poetics Lab is partnering with the Susan Lane Foundation to present an open mic celebration night on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Art in the Loft.

Cocktail hour will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with music by Tranquil Trauma. The Poetics Lab Chapbook Vol. IV release and HOMES Haiku winner announcement will be held during the program, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

This event will also be live streamed.

The Poetics Lab has partnered with the Susan Lane Foundation on the HOMES Haiku Competition, supported by the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan’s Women’s Giving Circle funds.

Alcona County Veterans Board meeting and Quilt of Valor program Tuesday

HUBBARD LAKE — The public is invited to attend the Alcona County Veterans Board meeting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Hubbard Lake Community Center, 1561 Hubert Road, Hubbard Lake.

The Hubbard Lake Community Association is hosting the meeting, which will be followed by refreshments and a Quilt of Valor presentation.

Attendees can meet Alcona County Veterans Service Officer Tony Atkinson, as well as members of the Veterans Board, socialize with fellow veterans and community members, enjoy refreshements, and witness a Quilt of Valor presentation.
