Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council awards over $32K in new grants

ALPENA — Education, environment, arts programs, and human services programs are just some of the areas touched by the most recent round of grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council. The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan Board of Trustees recently approved $32,760 in a new round of youth-related NEMYAC grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties.

New NEMYAC Grants are:

¯ Alcona Community Schools received three grants totaling $2,040 to support the “Catch a Kindness” project; Elementary Life Skills project; and the Alcona High School Knowledge Bowl Club.

¯ Alcona Girls Basketball received $760 to purchase middle school basketball uniforms.

¯ Alpena Childcare and Development Center received $900 to support the Happy Little Artists project.

¯ Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District received $1,250 to support the AMA ESD Early On program.

¯ Alpena Public Schools received six grants totaling $5,650 to support the Wildcat Robotics Team #5505; the AFP ROV teams; two Mackinac Island field trips; the Science Olympiad Building and Technology Updates project; and for the Sunset Elementary Playground project.

¯ Ana’s Treasures received $2,000 to support the 2025 Ana’s Essentials Program.

¯ Atlanta Community Schools received $1,250 to support the Atlanta Community Schools Art Class project.

¯ Boys and Girls Club of Alpena received $1,150 to support the Youth Mentors for a Positive Change project.

¯ Friends Together received $2,125 to support the Transportation and Lodging Fund for Pediatric and Adolescent Cancer Patients.

¯ Harrisville United Methodist Church received $1,200 to support the Feeding Alcona County Families project.

¯ Hospice of Michigan Inc. received $1,425 to support the Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children.

¯ Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency received $1,000 to support the Steps to Success project.

¯ New Beginnings Ministries received $2,500 to support the Feeding the Cold and Hungry project.

¯ Onaway Area Community Schools received $1,000 for the Onaway Media Center Student Lounge Update project.

¯ Posen Consolidated Schools received two grants totaling $2,500 for the Students Against Destructive Decisions project and the Creating Environmental Stewards Through Outdoor Exploration and Education project.

¯ Rogers City Area Schools received $1,800 for the Huron Reward Days project.

¯ Rogers City Community Theatre, Inc. received $1,660 to support the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” project.

¯ The Stone House Studio received $800 for the 48-Hour Mobile Film Festival project.

¯ Thunder Bay Transportation Authority received $1,750 to support their Youth Summer Transportation program.

The next opportunity for grants is through the CFNEM Community Impact Grants and the next cycle of the NEMYAC Grants. Applications for both grant opportunities are due on Jan. 15, and can be found at cfnem.org.

The Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council is made up of youth from across the CFNEM service area. These young people learn the importance of philanthropy and community service through the grantmaking process, gaining important leadership skills along the way. NEMYAC Grants are made possible through the Kellogg Youth Fund at the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan, and the McLean Fund for Rogers City.
