Partners in Prevention offering free courses
Partners in Prevention is offering four nationally (if not globally) recognized personal/professional development courses scheduled for the new year, all available at no cost to those in the area. The Lewiston Mental Health First Aid (blended) has been rescheduled due to the weather and will now be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 at Movement on Main, 2791 Kneeland St., Lewiston.
The Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma series starts on Jan. 22 in Alpena and Presque Isle. Developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, this course is for caregivers of all kinds and those who work with children. The course will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday from Jan. 22 to Feb. 26 at two locations: Alpena’s First Presbyterian Church (1600 W. Chisholm St.) and the Grand Lake Branch of Presque Isle District Library (18132 Lake Esau Hwy., Presque Isle).
A fully in-person Mental Health First Aid will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Huron State Bank Annex, 192 N. Second St., Rogers City. This course is designed for all caring adults looking to learn more about mental health and make their community safer, healthier, and happier. There will be a special promotion for school staff and board members, so contact Partners in Prevention for details. No online precourse is needed.
There will be an ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) in Hillman on Feb. 18 and 19. This course is available at no cost to everyone ages 16 and older who want to keep the people around them safe from suicide. This course has been called “the world’s leading suicide intervention skills training program.” A special promotion for school staff and board members is available. ASIST will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Hillman Community Center, 24220 Veterans Memorial Hwy., Hillman.
