Written by East Tawas playwright Michal Jacot, the comedy centers around the overly organized control freak, Amber, who is planning what she hopes to be the perfect wedding to her easygoing fiance, Scott. Despite her careful planning, her scatterbrained siblings Keith and Frankie keep messing up when they try to help, and her pushy mother won’t hear a word she says. Her grandpa is a curmudgeon, and his longtime girlfriend Bonnie has no idea what’s going on. Amber’s mom suggests they have a double wedding, much to Amber’s chagrin. “It’s My Wedding, Dear Grandpa” is full of comedic surprises that will keep audiences laughing. ∫ A euchre tournament fundraiser for the Plaza Pool will be held on Sunday at a new location, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1960 M-32, Alpena. This fundraiser will be hosted by the Friends of Plaza Pool. Doors open at noon and play starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. ∫ MLK Beloved Community of Northeast Michigan presents Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities from 1 to 8 p.m. at Alpena Community College. From 1 to 3 p.m., children from elementary through middle school age can participate in crafts, storytime, and activities in the ACC Park Arena and ACC Fletcher Library. From 3 to 4 p.m., Pastor Lenny Avery will lead a presentation and discussion titled “Love in Action,” geared toward high school students and adults, in the ACC Besser Technical Center Commons. From 4 to 5 p.m., an ACC student craft will be offered in the BTC Commons, with supplies provided by Art in the Loft. From 5 to 6:15 p.m., a community chili supper fundraiser will be held, for $8 per adult, and $4 per student, in the Lumberjack Shack (adjacent to ACC BTC Commons). Proceeds from the chili supper will benefit Loads of Love, a project that provides free laundromat service for those in need. Then, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., a facilitated community discussion called “Building a Beloved Community” will be led by Sandra Pilgrim-Lewis in ACC CTR 106. This event is open to the whole community.
