Dr. Tom’s Words and Music Feb. 12
ALPENA — Join Dr. Tom for Words and Music from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at Alpena County Library.
This month’s show is on Feb. 12, and is titled “Saturday Night at the Owl Cafe.”
In the 1940s and 1950s, until a gas explosion brought it crashing down (the cash register landed on a church doorstep across the street), the Owl Cafe was Alpena’s signature nightclub. Join Dr. Tom (Ferguson) for a musical time trip back to the House of MacDougal.
Dr. Tom’s Words and Music is a monthly excursion into piano instrumentals, vocals, and entertaining mini-monologues drawing on jazz, swing, pop, western swing, and the mid-20th century passing scene. Your toes will tap and your ears will smile. This event is extraordinarily laid-back. Bring a friend. Bring a lunch. Bring an expectation you’ll have a truly entertaining noon hour.
This is a free event, but tips will be accepted for Alpena County Library’s READ Adult Literacy Program. The READ Program provides free confidential tutoring to adults needing reading help, learning English as a second language (ESL), or studying for their GED.
Alpena County Library is located at 211 N. 1st Ave. in Alpena. If you have questions, call 989-356-6188.
