Hillman VFW Post 2356 held February meeting
HILLMAN — The Hillman VFW Post 2356 held its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, with 10 members present.
The members were pleased to see the American Flag flying in front of the Atlanta School again. Then they addressed fundraising for this year’s V-J Day celebration. This year, they hope to expand the weekend with extended events and a larger fireworks display.
The Friday night fish fry is still 4 to 7 p.m. weekly at the VFW Post.
The second Monday of each month, there will be a continuation of the V-J Day meetings at 6 p.m. at the VFW Post. The public is welcome. This year’s V-J Day celebration will be Aug. 9.
You can reach the current County Veterans Affairs Representatives by calling 989-785-8043. Or you can call the VFW Post veterans affairs officer, Bruce Brown, at 989-464-1373. He is extremely knowledgeable and wants to help any veterans in need.
The Post sells, made in the United States, polyester 3-foot by 5-foot American Flags for $30. There is also an old flag drop box outside the front door at VFW Post 2356.
Medical supplies are available for loan by calling Wayne at 989-255-4412. Anyone with medical items not needed, please call the VFW so they can continually upgrade. For Post Hall rentals, please call Bob Hunt at 989-657-1162.
The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 6.
WOVEN event Tuesday at New Life Christian Fellowship
ALPENA — All women and young women, junior high age and up, are warmly invited to join New Life Christian Fellowship from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday for their WOVEN (Women of Victory Experiencing Newness) meeting. The free event will be held at New Life, 317 S. Ripley Blvd., Alpena, in the lower level of the church.
The topic of this special evening will be God’s love. This event begins with a shared meal.
