Thunder Bay Island Preservation Society held annual meeting
ALPENA — Thunder Bay Island Preservation Society held its annual meeting and elections on Jan. 28.
The membership elected Nancy Kunzat as the incoming president, Jean Braden as vice president, and Steve Dean and Susan Skibbe were re-elected to their previous positions of treasurer and secretary.
An overview of 2024 showed a total of $20,495 of in-kind volunteer service, grants of $5,000, and TBIPS cash investment of over $41,000.
The production of the Restless Viking video has received over 175,000 views, and the public response has been phenomenal.
Projects identified for the 2025 season will include building maintenance on the oil house and the fog signal building.

Alpena High School Class of 1965 reunion set for June 29
ALPENA — One of Alpena High School’s largest graduating classes will be hosting their 60th class reunion this summer. The event, open to class members and their spouse/guest, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Alpena Yacht Club.
Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be provided, as well as a cash bar. Ample parking is available near the Club’s entrance.
Since the gathering is being held during the busy summer season, out-of-town attendees are encouraged to make accommodation reservations in the near future. If you require hotel or motel accommodations, please consult the Alpena Convention and Visitors Bureau website for a listing.
If you would like, bring your high school yearbooks, photographs, letterman coats, and cheerleading clothing, and any other memorabilia you may care to share.

Aid by the Dozen met Feb. 12
ALPENA — The Aid by the Dozen group met on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the 19th Hole. Tammy Daleski served as hostess. The monthly donation once again went to a local cancer patient. Secret pals receiving Valentine’s gifts were many. Receiving surprises were Mariette Jore, Maxine Gagnon, Kim Mischley, Catherine Murphy, Sherry Allen, Carole Kelly, Lori Zeller, Nancy Belanger, and Marlene Montie.
Catherine Murphy will host the next meeting at 5 p.m. on March 12 at the 19th Hole.
Euchre tournament Sunday to benefit Alpena Plaza Pool
ALPENA — The Friends of Plaza Pool will host a euchre tournament on Sunday at a new location, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1960 M-32, Alpena. This is a fundraiser for the Plaza Pool. Doors open at noon and play starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, and you must be at least 18 to play. Cash prizes will be awarded, with the amount to be determined by the number of participants. There will be a $1 entry for high game, food, a 50/50 drawing, and door prizes.
Neil Diamond tribute Sunday
ALPENA — As part of the Sunday Memories Concert Series, a Neil Diamond tribute will take place on Sunday at the APlex, 701 Woodward Ave., Alpena. Doors open at noon. Admission is $21 per person, and hors d’oeuvres are included. Sing along to Neil Diamond’s greatest hits. If you have questions, call 989-354-6164.
Alcona Book Club to meet
HARRISVILLE — The Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday at the Alcona County Library in Harrisville (312 W. Main St.) to discuss “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath.
Looking ahead, the March meeting will be on Monday, March 24, featuring “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver. Book Club books are available at the Circulation Desk of the Alcona County Library’s Harrisville branch.
