Brush Creek Mill awards $12,500 in grants for youth programs

ALPENA — The outstanding support of the 2024 Teeing Up For Kids golf scramble has allowed the Brush Creek Mill’s Children’s Fund to award $12,500 in grants for 2025.

All 25 applications are for child-centered activities within Montmorency County. The Children’s Fund of Brush Creek Mill in Hillman also sponsors the annual children’s free Christmas party, Halloween Hand Out and trips to the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan for fourth-grade students of Atlanta, Hillman, and Lewiston schools.

A Grant Presentation Ceremony was held on Sunday, March 9 at the Mill, with refreshments following.

Brush Creek Mill is pleased to announce the recipients of their 2025 grants:

∫ Atlanta Community Schools — Grades six to 12, standing classroom tables.

∫ Atlanta Community Schools — Third grade, student game checkout to take home and play with family.

∫ Atlanta Community Schools — Sixth through ninth grades, history students to Mackinac City Fort.

∫ Atlanta Elk Festival – Kid Zone games, educational prizes.

∫ Hillman Area Lions Club — School Pantry and Backpack Program

∫ Hillman Christian Academy — Grades K through nine, 3D printer and PLA filament rolls.

∫ Hillman Elementary School — Transportation to Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

∫ Hillman Elementary School — Recess bench.

∫ Hillman Elementary School — Second grade, canvas painting class.

∫ Hillman Elementary School — Second grade, transportation to Lafarge Paxton Quarry.

∫ Hillman Elementary, junior/senior high schools, music programs and band.

∫ Hillman High School — Golf team, hats and towels.

∫ Hillman Girl Scout Troop #4810 — Nature Preserve Trip.

∫ Hillman Methodist Church — Back to School Bash.

∫ Lewiston Elementary School — Fifth-grade transportation to Inland Seas, Suttons Bay.

∫ Lewiston Elementary School — Family Engagement Nights.

∫ Montmorency County 4-H Fair — Kid Zone Arts and Crafts Event tent.

∫ Montmorency County Libraries — Atlanta, Hillman and Lewiston, 100 sketchbooks each, fine arts program.

∫ St. John Lutheran Children’s Center — Five-foot Rock Hole Climber.

Brush Creek Mill wants to thank everyone who supports the Teeing Up For Kids golf scramble. They hope the community will continue to help them raise the funds to offer children these very valuable grants.

State St. in Hillman. “The Mission of Brush Creek Mill is to celebrate history, promote learning and demonstrate environmental sustainability through a regional focus and a volunteer-based operation,” brushcreekmill.org states. “Brush Creek Mill is open year-round and features a gift shop, a variety of events and activities, a memorial garden on the Brush Creek, and the Hillman Area Historical and Genealogy Society’s museum.”
