MARSP meeting April 10

ALPENA — Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will hold their first meeting of 2025 at noon on Thursday, April 10 at the First United Methodist Church on Ripley Boulevard. The group meets on the second Thursday of the month, April through June. They take a break for July and August, and come back again in September through December.

A catered lunch, payable at the door, is available for $12.50, or you are welcome to bring your own lunch. Reservations are needed and can be made one week in advance or no later than Monday, April 7, by calling or texting Ruth LeBarre at 989-506-8876.

On April 10, MARSP will have State Trooper Jason Kunath as guest speaker, sharing about fraud and scams. Invite a fellow school retiree and they will receive current information concerning pensions and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Low-cost microchipping event April 19

ALPENA — Second Chance Animal Shelter will host a low-cost microchipping event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at the shelter. Walk-ins are welcome, and no appointments are needed. Cats must be in a carrier, and dogs must be on a leash. The cost is $25, and the shelter is located at 1110 DeVere Drive (beside the Days Inn on M-32).
