ALPENA — BSA Scouting Troop 92 of Alpena was recently honored by the Michigan Crossroads Council, Scouting America for their efforts cleaning up brush after the ice storm that hit Northern Michigan.
“We’re so proud of Troop 92-Alpena for their selfless service to their community during a time of need,” the Michigan Crossroads Council, Scouting America Facebook page stated. “Their efforts are a shining example of the Scouting spirit in action.”
Troop 92-Alpena was out helping neighbors clean up downed trees and limbs, and they have put in many hours of service to their community in time of disaster.
“We’ve actually been doing quite a few lawns,” said Troop 92 Scoutmaster Steven Donajkowski, adding that the Scouts are doing it “to help out the community, and to get service hours. Each rank requires a certain amount of service hours.”
Donajkowski said they do accept donations, which will go toward their summer camp funding, but they are cleaning up lawns at no charge, as well.

The group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alpena.
BSA Scouting is offered for both boys and girls. Volunteers are needed — especially female volunteers, according to Donajkowski.
