Downtown Alpena sidewalks were mostly bare Sunday evening as a heavy snowfall made its way into Northeast Michigan. The National Weather Service in Gaylord predicted accumulation of 1 to 2 inches in most of the region by Monday morning. Gale force winds along the shore of Lake Huron were expected to make travel hazardous, with the additional potential for beach erosion and minor property damage.

Winter, it would appear, is back.
