OSSINEKE — Firefighters from Sanborn Township and Alpena Township remove a woman from a crushed vehicle at the intersection of U.S.-23 South and Nicholson Hill Road on Thursday afternoon. The woman was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with unspecified injuries after she turned north onto U.S.-23 and collided with a man headed south. The man was not injured, although his vehicle was pushed into a nearby tractor-trailer.
Firefighters used extrication tools to remove the woman from her car, first prying open the hood to disconnect the battery so the car’s airbags — which did not deploy during the crash — would not be triggered by the tools.
