HARRISVILLE ― A 70-year-old Alcona County man died before firefighters reached his burning house on Saturday, the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

Responders dispatched to a house fire on McConnell Road in Gustin Township arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames about 8:15 p.m. A neighbor who spotted the fire had pulled the home’s resident, William Ullman, out of the home, but Ullman had sustained extensive injuries in the fire. He died before help arrived, according to police.

The fire remains under investigation by the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit.
