Alpena sports fans love to support a winner and the Alpena High School hockey team has given the hometown crowd plenty of reasons to cheer this season.

With a talented roster that includes 10 seniors, the Wildcats have won, and won, and won some more. In fact, they’ve won so much that they’ve matched a program record for wins in a season with 23 against only three losses.

Coach Ben Henry’s team had all the ingredients for a successful season before the Wildcats ever took the ice: Veteran leadership, talented goal scorers, shutdown defensemen, and top-notch goaltenders. Added all together it’s produced one of the best season in the history of the program: One where the Wildcats have steamrolled by opponent after opponent.

Not only have the Wildcats won a Big North Conference championship this season, but they’ve been ranked among the top teams in the state all year and proven themselves against top-flight competition in elite showcases.

Playing in front of packed houses at Northern Lights Arena during home games, the Wildcats have looked impressive each time they take the ice and they’re setting strong foundations for future success.
