ALPENA — Harrison Kaszubowski will get the chance to play hockey at the next level.
The Alpena High sophomore was drafted by the Saginaw Spirit over the weekend in the 14th round with the 276th overall pick in the Ontario Hockey League’s 2023 Priority Selection Draft.
According to a news release, Kaszubowski is the third alumnus of the Saginaw Jr. Spirit to be selected by Saginaw in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.
“High school hockey is always interesting because you have to take that into account, but he’s a playmaker, a really good skater, and just an all-around good player,” Saginaw Assistant GM Brian Prout said in the release. “I think with some development, he has the potential to fight for a spot on our roster.”
In two seasons with the Wildcats, Kaszubowski has transformed into a star. Serving as a co-captain this season, Kaszubowski tied for the team lead in goals with 30 and finished with 64 points during a record-setting season that saw Alpena win 24 games, a regional championship and the Big North Conference title.
Playing on Alpena’s top line with Anden Marceau and Reid Meinhardt, the trio proved challenging for opponents to stop and combined for 197 points.
Kaszubowski was one of six Alpena players to earn all-state honors this season and was named to the Division 2 all-state second team.
As a freshman, Kaszubowski appeared in 15 games, tallying 20 points for the Wildcats during another regional championship season.
