Alpena JV soccer ends season with shutout win

Alpena High School’s junior varsity boys soccer team finished its season with a 4-0 shutout win against Cadillac.

Goalie Josh Short recorded his fifth shutout of the season behind a defensive effort that limited Cadillac’s scoring chances throughout the game.

The defensive rotation of Jace Kadrich, Jackson Natzel, Jayden Crandall, Nicholas Dargis, Remy Coffee, Ethan Pieczynski, and Johnathan Blaski frustrated the Vikings all night and kept the action in Cadillac’s defensive end for most of the game.

Kadrich found the back of the net midway through the first half scoring Alpena’s first goal. Later in the half Reece Dragiewicz controlled a loose ball and scored on a breakaway putting the Wildcats up 2-0 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same with the Wildcat midfielders controlling the action.

Midfielders Parker Kaiser, Jackson Birmingham, Aric Knight, Brendan Werth, Jacob Krey, and Anthony Schultz contained the Viking attack while providing multiple scoring chances for Alpena.

About 15 minutes into the second half Birmingham stole a Viking pass, made a run through the Cadillac defense, and scored Alpena’s third goal of the game. Minutes later Dragiewicz pushed through the Viking defensive line for his second breakaway goal of the game.

Alpena JV finished the season with seven wins, four losses, and one tie.
